The out counts to know cold
Flush draw: nine outs. Open-ended straight draw: eight. Gutshot: four. Flush draw plus a gutshot: twelve. Flush draw plus an open-ender: fifteen (the biggest common draw). Memorise these five and you'll count almost any spot instantly — this trainer drills them until the numbers are automatic.

What is an out in poker?
An out is a card still in the deck that improves your hand to a likely winner. If you hold four cards to a flush, the nine remaining cards of that suit are your outs. Counting outs quickly is the first step to working out whether a draw is worth continuing with.
How many outs is a flush draw or a straight draw?
A flush draw is nine outs (13 of the suit minus the four you can see). An open-ended straight draw is eight outs, and a gutshot (inside) straight draw is four. A combined flush and straight draw can be fifteen outs after removing overlaps.
What's the rule of 4 and 2?
Multiply your outs by 4 on the flop (two cards to come) or by 2 on the turn (one card to come) to estimate your chance of hitting by the river as a percentage. Nine outs on the flop is roughly 9 × 4 = 36% — close to the true 35%.
